MAKING positive MEMORIES

Picture
In a world where we hear stories of pain, fear, and anger pretty much every day, I am busting at the seams to share some exciting news with you today. Before I spill the beans, I have to ask… have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a talk show host? To be able to give scholarships, provide support or advice, and lifechanging experiences? This may seem like a silly question but really, have you? Think about how amazing that must feel...

Even Super Heroes need refreshments.

Spoiler Alert:
I am not getting my own talk show.
I know, I know, maybe one day...
I have wondered since the day my sweet, lucky finned, little boy was placed in my arms why I was chosen to be his mother. I was a (busy) mom of two boys trying to make it through the week until the next season premier of my favorite television series. (And usually struggling to stay awake for the show!)

Then life said, “Here is your new baby! …Oh yeah, he’s a little different but... you’ll figure out what to do.”

And you know what, I DID! It took some time but here we are.
I didn’t just get an amazing child though, I got a taste of truly helping others and it started the ripple that blossomed into this 501(c)3 Nonprofit, Different Heroes! Sure, our foundation is not bringing in the money to fund exquisite weeklong stays and fancy gatherings like the big foundations get to do…

HOWEVER!
Thanks to donations from giving supporters like you and the kindhearted management of our venue, we were able to provide full admission to Urban Air Adventure Park, lunches, stickers, jump socks, superhero capes & masks, and most importantly hours of laugher, rekindling, and new friendships for The Limb Differences Of North Carolina families!!

Since I started coaching and supporting other parents of limb different children (and sometimes even parents that have a child with another kind of physical difference!) I have felt like so much more than “just a mom”. Knowing we are potentially saving another family from the feelings of fear I once felt, completely fills my heart.

And just look at these smiles<3

The giggles were contagious. Parents exchanged resources and
prosthetic equipment advice. Everyone was high fly zip-lining, enjoying pizza, bouncing & flipping around on trampolines, and competing in the obstacle courses. I think the highlight of the day was watching two of the girls comparing their little nubs! (I mean, does it get any cuter than that?!) It was so nice to see she had made a friend who like her, also didn’t have a hand. These event are so important to build friendships for the parents and for the children. In that room, the kids were surrounded by other children like them. In that room, the parents could relax as well because they know the kids aren't going to pick on their child.

It's always nice to know you have a friend, though they may be miles and miles apart, that is like you. <3
That day, I thought to myself, “So this is what it feels like to be Ellen!” Ok yeah, Ellen is much bigger and far more well known than we are. She could run circles around our first event...
But, we are determined to grow Different Heroes to be a foundation. Every dollar we raise directly impacts an individual with a limb difference. Let us show you what we can do with your donation.

We presented the owner of this location, Chris, with a Differnt Hero Award for going above and beyond to help us make this a smooth, affordable, and memorable experience for all involved. Thanks again Chris!
